About

My name is Robin Murray, founder of RM Strategic Marketing. I have dreamt about retirement since I started working at the age of 16. As a marketer of ideas about money throughout my entire career of 35 years, it’s finally time for me to start anticipating my own retirement. You may ask, “why not blog about financial tips?” Well, there’s plenty of advice out there. I believe that not enough has been written about the non-financial side of retirement, i.e., the joys of retirement.

So, why the name Retirement Yenta? Well, this is all I talk about. Retirement excites me. I love to talk to people who have recently retired, and those who are well on their way. I love to hear their ideas, stories, and plans. I love to share their ideas, as well as my own. (OBVIOUSLY!) What’s more, I am a yenta. Oy, do I love to match people up–with a mate, or advice.

While Retirement Yenta likes the finer things in life, she also loves a good deal. If her tip seems too upscale, know that there are ways to apply these tips to any income level. Retirement Yenta says: “Treat yourself, you deserve it.”

By the way you don’t have to know how to spell MARTINIS to enjoy them!

Raise cattle, learn how to fix a car, go to a woodworking class, stay beautiful and fit, learn canasta, give back to society, OR go back to work ( ha ha )

You crack me up, “Retirement Yenta”! I like that you refer to yourself in the 3rd person. Look into the mirror and ask, “what does the Retirement Yenta want to do today?”
Filling papers, tho? No way. Scan them or dump them – but get rid of all that crinkly old yellow paper with coffee stains! Think green! Encourage people to stop sending you hard copies of stuff. You will be lighter.

    HI Robin!

I like your focus on retirement, but not just financial. I think you have identified a niche that needs filling. I love the tips you have given so far, with a hint of light heartiness. We need to lightened up in retirement! Of coarse you will be working on your blog, but it won’t seem quite like work since it is interesting and self guided. I have a new Facebook page named “retirement media” so I will add your Facebook page as a favorite. By the way Facebook is how I found you.

Some additional tips to your tips!
Tip #29–Gilt.com and ideeli.com have such great variety of quality products that they often sell out quickly just after the sale starts. Use Outlook or some other automatic calendar feature to alert you to the start of the sales.
Tip #32–Remake old boyfriend or family heirlooms containing valuable, precious stones into pieces you will cherish and wear regularly.

  10. DJ says:

Tip # 1: Don’t worry about what you’ll do all day. You won’t have time to do anything as looking for your glasses will take up all your time. If you absolutely can’t find them, buy new ones, in which case your old ones will miraculously reappear.

Tip #2: Potchke. That pile of papers will look a lot better if alphabatized. If already alphabatized then move them 3″ and file by subject.

Tip #3: Do not think of giving up your landline to save money. You need a landline in order to find where you put your cellphone.

Thank you! I have been dreaming about retirement since I was 16 years old.

  12. Congratulations on the new site! Love all the retirement tips!
