Tip #162: Build Muscle Tone NOW!
Retirement Yenta has been doing a not-so-scientific study among her father and members of her father’s generation. Papa RY is 85 and he goes to the gym every day, where he works hard to keep his muscle tone. Members of his generation are always telling your dear Yenta that, had they known better, they would have taken better care of themselves when they were young. This little Yenta recently read an article in the NY Times about how keeping muscle tone is the new buzz in the medical community. With this in mind, Retirement Yenta strongly recommends you start building muscle tone now, so you are nice and strong when you start getting a little older. The more you have now, the less muscle loss will effect you when you are old.
Tip #160: Consider Partial Retirement
That’s right, Retirement Yenta is not yet ready to retire. She’s been “trying it on” for a while now…a week or two here and there. What your dear Yenta has noticed is that she enjoys having projects and work to do. By the end of a second week of “practice retirement,” this little Yenta is chomping at the bit to get back to work. Retirement Yenta has a friend who says “idle hands are the devil’s playground”–and she knows how easy it is to get bored and stir up some trouble. SO, dear Readers, with this in mind, Retirement Yenta urges you to consider stepping into the Retirement Pool slowly–one toe at a time. Consider backing off your hours at your job and starting to find your way around life with free time…this way it won’t come as a shock to your system when you go “full time retiree status.”
Tip #159: Get Fit
Tip #158: Save Your Soles
Retirement Yenta loves a cute pair of shoes. She especially loves to have her feet in something cute, functional, and fashion forward. In Miami Beach, this little Yenta likes to go to Shoe Freak. She especially likes to go to Sigi, who knows her Miami shoes! Sigi is a masterful sales person who knows how to fit your feet. Now, while they have crazy 6 ” heels, they have great shoes that a Yenta can wear to the beach or on a night out on the town. You can find the Shoe Freak at 610 Collins Ave. in Miami Beach.
Tip #157: Moisturize!
Oy Veh! The sun in Miami Beach can make a Yenta’s face feel like a tanned piece of leather. You have seen this look, dear Readers. Older Yenta’s that have spent too much time in the sun are not a pretty sight. With this in mind, this little Yenta is trying to take care of her face. Retirement Yenta knows that a smooth face is the success of moisturizing. Retirement Yenta recommends the Tight, Firm, and Fill line from Beauticontrol. They also have a great neck firming serum that will help reduce the signs of the turkey gobbler that can occasionally start to sag from a Yenta’s chin and neck. Retirement Yenta says: moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. It will keep you from looking like someone’s dried-up crocodile handbag.
Tip #154: Get Billed
Retirement Yenta is on a Save-a-Buck Campaign! She has recently found out that she can request an itemized hospital bill. This will keep the hoodlum’s in charge of billing at the hospital honest. You can bet your Tuchas that this little Yenta will be checking on every cotton swab she is charged for, if…G-d forbid, she ends up in a hospital. Retirement Yenta says: Save a Buck if you are down in the hospital, with no luck. Get your bill itemized!
Tip #151: Look Up and Let Go!
Retirement Yenta’s little boychik (son) is taking a trip to Israel and is heading out tomorrow. Her sweet tokhter (daughter) is off at summer camp. Seeing her kinderlekh (children) growing up gives this little Yenta some anxiety. Oy Veh! What’s a Yenta to do? Well, dear Readers, Retirment Yenta has the solution: Look Up and Let Go! Your dear Yenta knows that anxiety is a self-defeating attitude and is now thinking about the good time her kids are going to have! This alleviates her fears. Plus, she knows that if all else fails, don’t worry, she’ll have a cocktail and just let everything go in one ear and out her liver.
Tip #150: Congratulate Yourself (Mazel Tov, Retirement Yenta!)
Here at the Retirement Yenta Home, we are raising a glass of the Yenta’s favorite Baron Herzog not mevushal wine and shouting “L’chayim” to the mountain tops! (We all know how this Yenta loves a good party.) Yes, that’s right, dear Readers, Retirement Yenta has made it to another milestone. No, she has not retired. Nooooo, her children are not out of the house–Oy Gevalt, will summer camp ever begin?!?! This little Yenta is wishing herself a big fat Mazel Tov for sharing 150 retirement tips. Tip #147: Save a Buck, Go on Vacation
Oy, Gevalt! The heat we’ve been having! Retirement Yenta loves warm weather, but the global warming we’re having can make a hot flash seem even hotter. I’m shvitzing here. This reminds your dear Yenta of a groys shmir (big deal) she thought she would pass along to you, her dear Readers. Go on vacation in June–the prices, how cheap they are. Retirement Yenta says: With the weather changing and heating up, go on vacation early and save a buck.
