Tip #157: Moisturize!

Monday, August 9, 2010 @ 02:08 PM

Oy Veh! The sun in Miami Beach can make a Yenta’s face feel like a tanned piece of leather. You have seen this look, dear Readers. Older Yenta’s that have spent too much time in the sun are not a pretty sight. With this in mind, this little Yenta is trying to take care of her face. Retirement Yenta knows that a smooth face is the success of moisturizing. Retirement Yenta recommends the Tight, Firm, and Fill line from Beauticontrol. They also have a great neck firming serum that will help reduce the signs of the turkey gobbler that can occasionally start to sag from a Yenta’s chin and neck. Retirement Yenta says: moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. It will keep you from looking like someone’s dried-up crocodile handbag.

Tip #133: Let the Sun Shine In

Tuesday, April 20, 2010 @ 12:04 PM

Retirement Yenta can sometimes have a bad day and go to what she calls the “dark side.” It happens to us all. Your dear Yenta has found a proven way to to drive away those “rainy day” blues. When the clouds enter your life, this Yenta suggests that you do something that makes you feel good about being you. This could be as simple as a walk in the sunshine, or treating yourself to a little spa time. Sometimes going to the beauty parlor and refreshing one’s “sun kissed” highlights is all it takes to let the sun shine in on your life. Retirement Yenta says this: “When feeling blue, a cut, color, and massage will make you feel new.”

Tip #129: Have a Backup Organizer

Monday, April 12, 2010 @ 03:04 PM

Recently, Retirement Yenta suffered a great loss. Her dear, beloved organizer left her for a job in corporate America. [Sniff] While Retirement Yenta is very happy for her friend, she is scrambling to find her reading glasses. She knows they are here somewhere, and that they are not on the top of her head, nor the tip of her nose. Fortunately, your dear Yenta has other help keeping her life organized. This little Yenta needs all the help she can get keeping her active household in great shape. She has even found that it is nice having organizational help between visits of her main organizer. Prevention is always the key to success. Retirement Yenta says: Have a backup organizer and a backup for your backup. This way you are never left in a Lurch. (“You raaaaaaaang?”)

Tip #127: Pack a Poncho

Monday, April 5, 2010 @ 01:04 PM

Oy! The Rain! Yes, that’s right, Retirement Yenta arrived in Miami Beach this week during a deluge of rain. Fortunately, this wise, little Yenta packed a poncho. Retirement Yenta goes nowhere without one. She also believes that a nice neon green or bright yellow poncho is great for brightening up those dull, gray, rainy days. PLUS, it adds that needed punch of color to one’s black-and-white, mix-and-match vacation ensemble (see Tip #126). Retirement Yenta says: Pack a Poncho, it could prove prudent in a pelting downpour.

Tip #123: Enjoy Your Midlife Crises

Thursday, March 25, 2010 @ 12:03 PM

When one gets to that certain point in one’s career, or that certain age in life where one’s eventual “Retirement in the Sky” seems much closer than is comfortable to think about, one often experiences one’s midlife crisis. Retirement Yenta has seen it time and time again. Co-workers and friends, who were once upstanding members of the work force or upstanding members of the community, suddenly change their thinking, drop everything they once held dear and buy a sports car/motorcycle/”younger model mate.” Now, your dear Yenta does not support the latter (you know, the younger model mate, unless said current mate has already retired to the sky), she does support, however, enjoying one’s midlife crisis. This little Yenta notes one thing about everyone in their midlife crisis: they are having fun. Who cares if you are 55 and look a fool to the neighborhood. It’s your life, have fun. Don’t deprive yourself. Retirement Yenta says this: When you are a “mid-yid,” don’t flip your lid. Have some fun instid!

We’re living in a very stressful time. Wars in at least two countries, the economy, Haiti! Sometimes your dear Yenta just needs to clear her head. What better way than to go for a drive with the top down and the seat warmers on high. Nothing is more invigorating! Oy – grab a friend and your keys and hit the road. Make sure to dress appropriately since it still will be quite cold. Nothing like cold winter winds to cleanse a troubled mind and sooth the soul.

Tip #50 Draft a Will

Tuesday, November 17, 2009 @ 10:11 AM

Retirement Yenta asks, “Why haven’t you done this already???!?!?”  Your dear Yenta wants to remind you of the importance of planning for your final “retirement in the sky.”  Estate planning is the last thing you are probably thinking about at the moment, but it’s better to “panic early and avoid the rush.”  The last thing you want to put your family through is probate court, as everyone will fight over your Mah Jongg set.

Tip #21 Join AAA

Monday, October 12, 2009 @ 01:10 PM

If you drive, it is important to sign up for AAA’s roadside assistance services. The last thing you want is to be left on the side of the road with a broken down convertible (or other car)! Oy Vey, that could be serious.

Tip 15: Buy A Convertible!

Thursday, October 1, 2009 @ 10:10 AM

Retirement Yenta maintains you buy expensive things while you’re still working.  When you get older you’re gonna feel a little strapped.  During these times, cars are relatively cheap.  So now is the time to buy that well-engineered convertible–used, i.e., a cute, 2004 silver BMW convertible.  Oh, did I say with black leather interior?  You can go to eBay Motors and find tons of great deals with low mileage.  You won’t regret this!
