Tip #154: Get Billed

Thursday, July 22, 2010 @ 04:07 PM

Retirement Yenta is on a Save-a-Buck Campaign! She has recently found out that she can request an itemized hospital bill. This will keep the hoodlum’s in charge of billing at the hospital honest. You can bet your Tuchas that this little Yenta will be checking on every cotton swab she is charged for, if…G-d forbid, she ends up in a hospital. Retirement Yenta says: Save a Buck if you are down in the hospital, with no luck. Get your bill itemized!

Tip #152: Learn Something New

Tuesday, July 13, 2010 @ 04:07 PM

Retirement Yenta believes that learning is a life-long process. She also believes that learning new things will keep the ol’noggin working like a well-oiled machine. This is why your dear Yenta is trying her best to learn to speak the language of Espagna! AND, as you know, dear Readers, this little Yenta likes to save a buck. So, with this in mind, Retirement Yenta would like to recommend free college classes to you. You can take classes from Yale, MIT, and other schools. Visit www.education-portal.com and click on “Open Course Ware” for a list of offerings!

Tip #147: Save a Buck, Go on Vacation

Monday, June 21, 2010 @ 11:06 AM

Oy, Gevalt! The heat we’ve been having! Retirement Yenta loves warm weather, but the global warming we’re having can make a hot flash seem even hotter. I’m shvitzing here. This reminds your dear Yenta of a groys shmir (big deal) she thought she would pass along to you, her dear Readers. Go on vacation in June–the prices, how cheap they are. Retirement Yenta says: With the weather changing and heating up, go on vacation early and save a buck.

As you, my dear readers know, Retirement Yenta loves to celebrate. Celebrating is fun, and your dear Yenta KNOWS how to have fun. Coming off of the Passover and heading quickly toward the fall High Ho’s, Retirement Yenta believes that it is HIGH TIME you start planning your celebrations. One mustn’t be ill prepared for a good Jewish holiday. Stock up on non-Mevushal wines and make amends (there’s a reason your mother drilled the Jewish guilt into your head)…and prepare to eat, and drink, and have a good time. If you are not Jewish…celebrate a Jewish holiday anyway. Retirement Yenta loves a good Christmas party, even though she’s not Christian. Retirement Yenta says: “a Greek Orthodox party is not to be missed! Those people know how to break a plate!”

Tip #102: Go Shopping in Your Closet!

Tuesday, February 2, 2010 @ 11:02 AM

As we all know, Retirement Yenta loves a good deal. One of the best deals to be found anywhere is in the back of your closet. Yes, that’s right…YOUR CLOSET. No, that’s not a hip, trendy, new boutique. It’s that space in your apartment where you store all those clothes you wear. Your dear Yenta strongly suggests that you go digging in your closet and pull out all those clothes you haven’t worn in a while. Try them all on. Then, choose what you want to purchase (it’s free!) and donate those other schmatas to a good cause. Don’t forget to try on all those shoes in the bottom of the closet. It’s amazing what you will find that you have forgotten. Your dear Yenta says: “Since it has been a while since you have had it on, it will feel like new to you and all your friends will think so too!”

Tip #80: Buy Coconut Shampoo!

Friday, December 25, 2009 @ 04:12 PM

Retirement Yenta loves the beach. Maybe you already know that. Well, know this, not only does your dear Yenta love the beach, she loves everything that simply reminds her of the beach. Recently, she discovered Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut Shampoo. This shampoo smells like her favorite sun screen, and as Retirement Yenta washes her “golden” locks, she is whisked away from cold, snowy New York City. She imagines herself on her beloved Miami Beach veranda which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. This shampoo is a mini-vacation in a bottle.

Tip #77: Go Bowling

Monday, December 21, 2009 @ 04:12 PM

As you may have guessed, Retirement Yenta is a fashionista and she loves those multi-colored shoes. Oy Veh, your dear Yenta cracks herself up sometimes. Seriously, Retirement Yenta thinks it is a good idea to have a bowling night. Not only is it good exercise, but it is also a great way to realize how out of shape you really are! (Plus, there are those shoes…)

Tip #52 Use Your Airline Miles

Wednesday, November 18, 2009 @ 07:11 AM

We all know that times are tight, and airlines are cutting back on their programs. Retirement Yenta says, “Don’t count on your miles being there for you! Start using those miles now.” As your dear Yenta has recommended before: you should start living out of your future. Enjoy some of the joys of retirement now (i.e., travel), to help you start visualizing what you want out of your life in retirement. If you don’t have time to travel now, give some of those miles to a charity or a relative who deserves a break!
