Tip: #143: Start Writing a Journal
Retirement Yenta loves her life. She loves writing. She also loves writing about her life. She knows that exploring one’s past helps one make better choices in the future. So, with this in mind, your dear Yenta wants to recommend keeping a journal. This little Yenta loves nothing more than to sit back (on a rainy day, or Monday when she’s down) and read what she was doing one, two, or even 10 years ago! It gives her perspective on her past, and makes her feel more positive about her future. Besides, when this little Yenta gets asked to make a movie about her life, someone has to come up with the details. It can’t all be fiction!
Tip #130: Rent Audio Books
As you may well know, Retirement Yenta loves sharing good advice. What she loves more than sharing good advice is sharing that same advice again and again. So, with that in mind, your dear Yenta would like to remind you of Tip #94: Rent Audio Books. Retirement Yenta wants to point out that renting is a great solution because you won’t clutter your bookshelves or computer with unwanted books/files. Recently, this little Yenta flew from NYC to Miami Beach and let me tell you this, missy: a good book can really help pass the time when cooped up like chickens in an overcrowded airplane. PLUS, by having the book in audio form, Retirement Yenta did not have to go digging into her bag for her reading glasses, nor did she have to worry about motion sickness from reading while flying. For your listening pleasure, Retirement Yenta recommends: Drive by Daniel Pink.
Tip #79: Buy Big (and Yes, Size Matters)
One knows that as one ages, the eyes start to go. So, Retirement Yenta has decided to beat nature at it’s own game. She has gone and bought herself two big screen TV’s, one for her living room and one for the bedroom. Retirement Yenta especially loves having a big TV in the bedroom (for obvious reasons). Now, when mother nature tries to laugh at your dear Yenta for not being able to see the way she once could, the Yenta can laugh back saying she sees just fine (as long as it is on at least a 42″ screen). Your dear Yenta also says, “Size matters, so, buy big, and buy now!”
Tip #67: Convert Your VHS Tapes to DVDs
It’s hard to imagine that VHS tapes have gone the way of dinosaurs, but they have. Not only do VHS tapes take up too much room on your shelves, but they also degrade over time and become unwatchable. Retirement Yenta recommends you spend the time and money now to have all your precious moments transferred over to a digital format. DVDs are much easier to copy than VHS tapes and sharing your favorite moments will be that much easier.
Tip #47 Update Your Electronics
Make sure that you update your stereo equipment before you leave the work force — whether it’s for your primary residence or your vacation home. This may involve an initial investment, but it will payoff in the long-run. Retirement Yenta says “it’s about time you upgraded to a surround sound system for all those movies you’ll be watching.” In an attempt to save space, Retirement Yenta has chosen to go with Orb speakers. They are classy, small, elegant, and sure to fit into any decor.
Tip #46 Redecorate Your Primary Residence
Retirement Yenta believes that your primary residence should evolve into a six month residence. You should start with your bedroom. You would like it to become Zen-like. Now is the time to finally splurge on those high priced linens, e.g., Sferra sheets. Remember, you deserve the very best. You may even reupholster a chair or two to match the linens. Oy – I almost forgot, buy a surround sound system for this room as well. You’ll want high-end sound when you watch those romantic DVDs with your loved one.
