Tip #129: Have a Backup Organizer
Recently, Retirement Yenta suffered a great loss. Her dear, beloved organizer left her for a job in corporate America. [Sniff] While Retirement Yenta is very happy for her friend, she is scrambling to find her reading glasses. She knows they are here somewhere, and that they are not on the top of her head, nor the tip of her nose. Fortunately, your dear Yenta has other help keeping her life organized. This little Yenta needs all the help she can get keeping her active household in great shape. She has even found that it is nice having organizational help between visits of her main organizer. Prevention is always the key to success. Retirement Yenta says: Have a backup organizer and a backup for your backup. This way you are never left in a Lurch. (“You raaaaaaaang?”)
Tip #127: Pack a Poncho
Oy! The Rain! Yes, that’s right, Retirement Yenta arrived in Miami Beach this week during a deluge of rain. Fortunately, this wise, little Yenta packed a poncho. Retirement Yenta goes nowhere without one. She also believes that a nice neon green or bright yellow poncho is great for brightening up those dull, gray, rainy days. PLUS, it adds that needed punch of color to one’s black-and-white, mix-and-match vacation ensemble (see Tip #126). Retirement Yenta says: Pack a Poncho, it could prove prudent in a pelting downpour.
Tip #126: Stick To Black & White
Retirement Yenta, upon her arrival at her Miami Beach Oasis, realized something big. The clothes she has there are of two colors: black and white. Your dear Yenta realized how great it was to be able to mix and match her ensembles without much thought. This makes Retirement Yenta smile. Simplicity in life is a good thing. These black and white ensembles are humidity friendly, light weight, and can easily go from beach to shul in a snap, with the addition of the right coverup. Now, your dear Yenta realizes that one might look a bit drab with no color, so she recommends adding a splash of color with a nice lightweight scarf. It’s good for the wind, or those days that have the slightest of chills blowing in from the ocean. Retirement Yenta says: What’s black and white and red aaaaaallll over? The answer is: Retirement Yenta in her black and white ensemble with a nice red scarf (and a bit of a burn from too much sun).
Tip #111: Steal Your Masseuse’s Sneakers
Retirement Yenta knows that keeping your feet healthy is a good thing. “Ya don’t wanna have bad feet when you’re old, it’ll make ya miserable.” This was the advice this little Yenta received in her younger days, while living in one of her first NYC walk-up apartments. The elderly neighbor who gave the advice lived on the 4th floor of the walk up. She was in her 80′s and full of moxy. Your dear Yenta watched as she slooooooowly climbed those stairs and swore she would always take care of her feet. Retirement Yenta also knows a little secret: a masseuse knows the best shoes for your feet. SOOOOOO, during a recent massage, this little Yenta was staring at the floor through the massage table doughnut and saw some GREAT shoes on her masseuse’s feet. They were the Nike Lunar Glide Plus. Retirement Yenta knew she had to have them, and so, she ran out and bought a pair for each of her homes. No, she did not STEAL them. That was a little white lie to get you to read her tip. BUT, they ARE the most comfy sneakers she has EVER had on her tootsies. Retirement Yenta says: “Take care of your feet, and you will never lose your seat.”
Tip #108: Get Some Sun Every Day
Retirement Yenta vacations at her Miami Beach retirement home. Ah, the sun, the sand, and the surf…what more could a Yenta want? This little Yenta has noticed how much better her mood is when she is in the sun a little every day! It is like therapy, but without the bills from the shrink. Your dear Yenta strongly suggests that if you can’t escape to the beach, you should at least get out and get some sun every day, especially during those dark, dreary, winter days. It will keep the February Madness at bay.
Tip #103: Buy a Massage Table and Oils for All Your Homes!
All the time Retirement Yenta spends at her computer sharing her brilliant retirement tips has started to bother her back and shoulders and she has found that a good massage is the cure for what ails her. Your dear Yenta has found that it is wise to have a massage therapist close by all of her homes, so she can avail herself of the healing touch when the need arises. She also knows that having all the proper supplies (oils, lotions, and massage table) makes it that much more convenient to get her massage on.
Tip #93: Buy Prescription Swimming Goggles
Retirement Yenta has had some trouble keeping up with her things in the past. And, as you know, she loves her beach time. Your dear Yenta recommends that you buy prescription swimming googles for all of your homes. It’s time you spent some dough on yourself and you never know when you might need or want to pop over to the local pool or ocean for a little swim. Why shouldn’t you be able to see under water? You don’t have to leave your glasses on the beach. Oy – it’s a pain getting older and loosing your eyesight. Don’t make it extra hard on yourself by doing your laps blind since you left your prescription goggles back in NYC.
