Tip #95: Get Physical
Retirement Yenta has found she enjoys getting physical. No, she’s not talking about Olivia Newton-John’s big hit from 1981 (though, she does like to get her “groove on” with that song). She is talking about getting physically fit. She thinks it is great to bring the gym to your own home. Buy a treadmill. Not only will it save you from the smell of hundreds of other’s sweat and dirty sox; it will also give you more motivation to work out. You will no longer have to drag yourself to the gym (and through the elements) to work out. It will be right there in your living room, awaiting your attention. Plus, you can watch your favorite “stories” while working out. Retirement Yenta says, “Get physically fit, and you will be a hit!” Just ask Olivia Newton-John!
Tip #79: Buy Big (and Yes, Size Matters)
One knows that as one ages, the eyes start to go. So, Retirement Yenta has decided to beat nature at it’s own game. She has gone and bought herself two big screen TV’s, one for her living room and one for the bedroom. Retirement Yenta especially loves having a big TV in the bedroom (for obvious reasons). Now, when mother nature tries to laugh at your dear Yenta for not being able to see the way she once could, the Yenta can laugh back saying she sees just fine (as long as it is on at least a 42″ screen). Your dear Yenta also says, “Size matters, so, buy big, and buy now!”
Tip #67: Convert Your VHS Tapes to DVDs
It’s hard to imagine that VHS tapes have gone the way of dinosaurs, but they have. Not only do VHS tapes take up too much room on your shelves, but they also degrade over time and become unwatchable. Retirement Yenta recommends you spend the time and money now to have all your precious moments transferred over to a digital format. DVDs are much easier to copy than VHS tapes and sharing your favorite moments will be that much easier.
Tip #25 Think About What You Eat
Let’s face it, you already can’t eat like you used to. So… as you anticipate retirement, you MUST start logging what you eat. By keeping a food diary, you will start to get a handle on what can “give.” Start counting calories, or go to Livestrong for their calorie counter. Start watching the TV program, The Biggest Loser to inspire you. In fact, buy The Biggest Loser‘s calorie book.
Tip 13: Don’t Forget To Walk
When you were working, particularly if you worked in a city, you walked a hell of a lot. In fact, you probably walked a lot more than you ever imagined. Now that you’ll be retired and not walking as much, remember that you need to compensate for this. Retirement Yenta recommends that you buy a treadmill, StairMaster, or NordicTrack, and place it right in front of your big flat screen TV. If you have a patio you might want to look into putting the equipment and TV outside.
