Tip #157: Moisturize!
Oy Veh! The sun in Miami Beach can make a Yenta’s face feel like a tanned piece of leather. You have seen this look, dear Readers. Older Yenta’s that have spent too much time in the sun are not a pretty sight. With this in mind, this little Yenta is trying to take care of her face. Retirement Yenta knows that a smooth face is the success of moisturizing. Retirement Yenta recommends the Tight, Firm, and Fill line from Beauticontrol. They also have a great neck firming serum that will help reduce the signs of the turkey gobbler that can occasionally start to sag from a Yenta’s chin and neck. Retirement Yenta says: moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. It will keep you from looking like someone’s dried-up crocodile handbag.
Tip #147: Save a Buck, Go on Vacation
Oy, Gevalt! The heat we’ve been having! Retirement Yenta loves warm weather, but the global warming we’re having can make a hot flash seem even hotter. I’m shvitzing here. This reminds your dear Yenta of a groys shmir (big deal) she thought she would pass along to you, her dear Readers. Go on vacation in June–the prices, how cheap they are. Retirement Yenta says: With the weather changing and heating up, go on vacation early and save a buck.
Tip #138: Don’t Forget the Ice Cream Cone!
As you may well know, Retirement Yenta is a size queen–to her bigger IS better (See Tips #79 & 96), BUT there is one thing that your dear Yenta thinks should remain small and taut. She’s talking about her cheeks. Yep, both sets–the ones on her face, and the ones on which she sits. Now, this is not to say that this little Yenta starves herself, or works out obsessively, but she does try to keep herself in shape. Still, your dear Yenta knows that one should allow oneself treats. With this in mind, Retirement Yenta suggests eating ice cream. She even suggests that if you like the added crunch of a cone, that you go ahead and have a cake cone–they are ONLY 20 extra calories. Be careful of the other cones! Sugar cones add 50 calories, waffle cones add 125, and chocolate dipped waffle cones add 220 calories <shriek>! And that’s not to mention that with each cone upgrade comes a larger portion of ice cream! Retirement Yenta says: “Eat ice cream and add a cone, your dear Yenta doesn’t want you to be all skin and bone!”
Tip #131: Buy Uggs!
During a recent jaunt down memory lane, Retirement Yenta, while re-sharing her good advice on renting audio books, remembered posting about wearing sensible shoes (See Tip #116). As you may well know, your dear Yenta LOVES a good deal and knows how to save a buck. This is the time of year when this little Yenta shops for her winter boots. The spring is coming, and the stores are putting out their sandals. In order for the stores to make room for these strappy, toe-showing models, they have to mark down their winter goods. This Yenta loves her Uggs. They are warm, cozy, and soft, and not only that, they’ve got good grip. So when it’s cold and icy out, and your neighbors are slipping and sliding, you will be nice and toasty, and upright. Retirement Yenta says: Buy Uggs, so you don’t fall and say ugh.
Tip #127: Pack a Poncho
Oy! The Rain! Yes, that’s right, Retirement Yenta arrived in Miami Beach this week during a deluge of rain. Fortunately, this wise, little Yenta packed a poncho. Retirement Yenta goes nowhere without one. She also believes that a nice neon green or bright yellow poncho is great for brightening up those dull, gray, rainy days. PLUS, it adds that needed punch of color to one’s black-and-white, mix-and-match vacation ensemble (see Tip #126). Retirement Yenta says: Pack a Poncho, it could prove prudent in a pelting downpour.
Tip #126: Stick To Black & White
Retirement Yenta, upon her arrival at her Miami Beach Oasis, realized something big. The clothes she has there are of two colors: black and white. Your dear Yenta realized how great it was to be able to mix and match her ensembles without much thought. This makes Retirement Yenta smile. Simplicity in life is a good thing. These black and white ensembles are humidity friendly, light weight, and can easily go from beach to shul in a snap, with the addition of the right coverup. Now, your dear Yenta realizes that one might look a bit drab with no color, so she recommends adding a splash of color with a nice lightweight scarf. It’s good for the wind, or those days that have the slightest of chills blowing in from the ocean. Retirement Yenta says: What’s black and white and red aaaaaallll over? The answer is: Retirement Yenta in her black and white ensemble with a nice red scarf (and a bit of a burn from too much sun).
Tip #120: Avoid Seasonal Affective Disorder
Now that the sun is finally showing again here in NYC, your dear Yenta is happy once more! She always dreads the dreary winter months and craves the warmth and sunshine that spring brings. Oy – why do you think she heads to Miami Beach as often as she can? Remember that seasonal depression is real and stay active to avoid it. You might also want to try using a sun lamp to help fend off the doom and gloom of a long winter. Life is short — don’t let winter get you down!
