Tip #163: Find Your Retirement Level

September 10, 2010 By Robin Murray 1 Comment

[Note: The Retirement Yenta is practicing her retirement and celebrating the High Holy Days today. Earlier this week, she asked me (her goy assistant) to post today’s tip. Shana Tova!]

Retirement Yenta suggested in her brilliant tip #160 that you Consider Partial Retirement. Today, your dear Yenta would like to expound on the importance of finding what level of retirement best suits your personality and lifestyle. This little Yenta knows that retirement is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Some of her dear Readers may find that full retirement (as soon as possible) to be a great fit, while, on the other hand, another dear Reader may find that 50% retirement (working 20 hours a week) to be more to their liking. Yet, other dear Readers may consider 90% retired a good level or even 10% retired. Retirement Yenta would like to recommend that her dear Readers try on a few different styles of retirement before taking the plunge into the Retirement Pool. Remember dear Readers, Retirement Practice makes Perfect.

Also you can transition in to and out of retirement levels. Work less for a while, then more for a while, then cut back, then go a different direction. I changed from being an Internal Audit Manager (accounting) to Real Estate Broker and property manager to Webmaster during my career. So changing after “retirement” is expected for me (and others). It is not a one time thing.
