Retirement Yenta loves a hot dish–and even though she finds her hubby to be a hot dish, she is actually talking about food. On her days off from the workforce, your dear Yenta, in her on-going practice for Retirement, has been practicing being a Hausfrau (a house wife) and she has discovered that she really enjoys cooking. Today, this little Yenta is slow cooking a beef stew for tonight’s shabbos dinner. It’s not even lunch time and the house smells delicious. As Retirement Yenta cooks, she likes to sing a few lines from Leonard Bernstein’s (may he rest in peace) show On the Town!
Oh, I can cook, too, on top of the rest,
My seafood’s the best in the town.
And I can cook, too.
My fish can’t be beat,
My sugar’s the sweetest around.
I’m a man’s ideal of a perfect meal
Right down to the demi-tasse.
I’m a pot of joy for a hungry boy,
Baby, I’m cookin’ with gas.
Retirement Yenta says, Learn to Cook, your house will smell tasty, you will have healthy food around and you can sing a song while you work. Good Shabbos to you all, and I wish you “Love and Best Dishes.”
