Retirement Yenta knows this: some people just can’t let it go. She also knows that if you love what you do, it’s difficult to let it go. But, dear Readers, your dear Yenta has seen it time and again…great people who kept on keeping on until the world had passed them by holding a bag of kittens. Let the Yenta give you a few examples for an explanation. Helen Thomas was a revered reporter. She had style, she had class, she didn’t stop reporting, and her judgement lapsed, and she, shall we say, stuck her foot in it. Now the world will remember her as the once great reporter who made the bigoted remark and got herself fired. There is also the case of Charlie Rangel. The man was admired by many…then he got himself caught. Lest we mention Former Police Commissioner and Secretary of Homeland Security nominee, Bernie Kerik. If he had just retired…if they ALL had just retired. (OR, better yet…if they all hadn’t screwed up!) So, with this in mind, Retirement Yenta says: Don’t do anything you wouldn’t want your mother catching you doing…and if you do…retire before you get caught.
