Retirement Yenta loves a good party. Yes, dear Readers, this fact is well known. Your dear Yenta also loves the holiday season, where her friends and family celebrate a wide variety of holidays, Thanksgiving, Chanukah, Christmas, Kwanza, and the New Year. This makes for a lot of parties. These holiday get togethers also makes your little Yenta think of Mother Yenta and it brings back memories of a house full of friends and family. So with this in mind, here is Retirement Yenta’s holiday entertaining guide that would (hopefully) make Mother Yenta proud.
1. The meal: Sweet and Sour Meatballs, Roasted Root Veggies, and Rice
Sweet and Sour Meatballs
2.5 lbs Ground meat (your favorite)
eggs (to bind the meat into balls), garlic, onions, oregano, salt and pepper to taste
Combine into meatballs.
Combine 2 bottles of ketchup (or yellow mustard…your choice) and one large bottle of grape (or your favorite flavor) jelly in a slow cooker.
After the ingredients combine, and the jelly liquifies, add meatballs. Cook on low until done. RY likes to set it and forget it…put ’em on in the morning, and take ’em out for dinner.
Suggested side dishes include brown rice, roasted root veggies, steamed broccoli.
For desert, your dearest homemaking Yenta wants to remind you of Mother Yenta’s extraordinary Noodle Kugle which can be found in Tip #187
