Happy New Year, dear Readers! 2011 is almost behind us and it is time to start afresh. It is once again time to go into your closets and re-evaluate your wardrobe. Your dear Yenta knows how things can get pushed to the back of your closet and go unnoticed…it happens to her all the time. So, this little Yenta likes to regularly go into her closet, pull out all of her fabulous clothes and re-evaluate them.
- Has it been worn in the last year?
- Is it still stylish and hip? (Your dear Yenta always recommends the classics…they NEVER go out of style!)
- Does it still fit?
- Has it been worn to the point that it is threadbare?
Answer yourself honestly and brutally. If it doesn’t fit (OY, these holidays can pack on a pound or two!), or if it is worn out and can’t be repaired, or you haven’t worn it in a while…DONATE IT (or toss it) NOW! ‘Tis the season for a tax exempt donation…and a great time to start with a clean, zen closet that invites you inside and doesn’t make you want to run screaming from the teetering, possible avalanche of clothes you may have accumulated over the past few months of value shopping.
Your dear Yenta knows she has given this tip before (see tips 102, 118, 170, and 237), but the closet shopping/downsizing process is ongoing. Retirement Yenta says: Never give up, never surrender, fight the good fight…and your closets will never become a source of plight.
