Oy veh, dear Readers, oy veh! Today is the day that every mother dreads! Retirement Yenta’s little mensch of a son is leaving home for a year of study in our people’s spiritual homeland (Israel). Your dear Yenta knows that she is not alone in this feeling. It sweeps the country every year when students start running off to college. In order to get your Yenta’s spirits up, she is going to share with you her plans for making it through her farewell to her son.
Step 1. Breathe.
Step 2. Breathe again.
Step 3. Repeat steps 1 and 2
After the initial shock of knowing her son is flying away to a land far away, Retirement Yenta is going to need a little adjustment time. First off, RY will be working with her beloved organizer to go through her beloved boy’s room. RY is NOT searching for anything. She has a good boy. RY instead will be putting the room in order for its next phase of existence: the come to visit room. RY will also be looking for new projects to fill her days and finding new ways to enjoy her half-empty nest, as she continues to slowly approach Retirement Level 10.
Today, RY is in the midst of her three-step breathing program and is thinking like Scarlett O’Hara: I can’t think about that right now. If I do, I’ll go crazy. I’ll think about that tomorrow. For, dear Readers, tomorrow is another day.
