Retirement Yenta has spent her life putting family and friends in front of herself. This year, she has decided it is time for a little Yenta TLC. So, while she is planning on a year of giving smaller gifts for the holidays (RY believes big gift giving has seen its day), this little Yenta is going to purchase some things for herself! Your dear Yenta’s holiday is not going to change. She will give as much as she did in years past. BUT, this year, RY’s gifts will be smaller, and the left over cash-ola will be spent on a gift for your Yenta’s favorite person…Retirement Yenta. This change in thinking has come from a decision to stop shoulding herself. RY is no longer going to do things because she feels she SHOULD do them. She will do them because she WANTS to do them. The almighty “Should” messes with your mind and heaps guilt on your psyche. Now, while RY does not generally give financial advice, she cannot help herself today. RY wants to warn you against going into debt on your holiday spending. Give what you can afford and nothing more. If you need to make a gift, your family will love it SO much more.
