Papa Yenta passed away on July 4th, dear Readers. It was a special holiday departure for this WWII veteran.
In thinking back over the past 4 1/2 months, Retirement Yenta has discovered some great things that can be done when taking care of a loved one who is on their final journey. Your dear Yenta started this journey with Papa Y by doing some landscaping. The flowers around the home are now in full bloom and make PY’s place beautiful. Who knew this Yenta has a green thumb? Landscaping is not this Yenta’s thing (Oy! the bugs!!) and she was surprised how much she enjoyed digging around in the garden (well, until she found the dead muskrat from the pond…that was the end of the landscaping).
Another great pastime for RY and PY was to keep tabs on the horses. That’s right, you can’t keep a Yenta away from her Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Steaks. It was also great to be there by PY’s side to enjoy the running of the horses.
PY and RY love their crime stories. Many a day was spent engrossed in Law & Order marathons (this was only one of many marathon crime dramas we enjoyed together).
With all this in mind, dear Readers, Retirement Yenta wants you to embrace your time as a hospice caregiver. It will allow you some good times with your dear ones and it will help you create some fond memories during a tough time.
