Once upon a time, Retirement Yenta gave some advice about storage unit rental. Her advice was sage: DO NOT DO IT. That’s right, dear Readers. Retirement Yenta is adamantly opposed to storage unit rental. Your dear Yenta believes storage units are nothing but a waste of money to store things you will eventually throw away. In keeping with RY’s theme of thrifty spending, she believes you should be thrifty with your time. Why pack, move, and store your junk, when in one quick swipe, you can donate or toss it?!? If it is something that could be valuable or useful to someone else, take it to your local charity thrift shop or mail it off to friends and family who could use it. (RY has family with kids of a similar size to her own, just a few years younger, so it has been great to pass on clothing that was in good shape that no longer fits!) Also, this little Yenta believes that an annual, or semi-annual downsizing of one’s home will assist you in keeping your life clutter free and zen. Retirement Yenta says: Downsize, Donate, Hand It Down, and Toss. Your clutter will disappear and you will appreciate its loss.
